This weekend brought the team's first action on the mat. Friday night, the Jackets faced off against North Cobb in Sprayberry's Auxillary gym, which will be know as "The Hive" from now on. The boys were anxious, but when Jacob Speeth stepped on the mat and lead us off with a pin, they never looked back. The Yellow Jackets won 9 out of the 12 matches wrestled (2 forfeits from Sprayberry) with an amazing 7 pins and 1 Technical Fall. The Jacket wrestlers set the pace in every match and The Hive was buzzing all night as the Jackets rolled through the line up. When it was all over, the Jackets were on top 52-16 and started the season off with a big win over a county rival.
Man of the Match goes to Christian McLellan who got bumped up to heavyweight for us despite only weighing in at 210 lbs. He got an early take-down and worked hard to keep his big opponent down. The match ended with McLellan lifting his opponent and bringing him to the mat hard which led to a quick turn and a pin just over a minute into the match.
